Open Letter from Clint Toledo
I’m Clint Toledo, campaign manager for Clint Koble who is running for congress in Northern Nevada. I know, it’s funny how we have the same first name, so you can call me Clinton to make it easier. I want to tell you why I am honored to serve in this role and help lead #TeamKoble.
First, a little background. I am a full-time high school teacher in Reno, Nevada, and the subject I teach is Government. Now more than ever, I have students counting on my phone calls, text message, and Zoom conferences every day. It warms my heart so much to connect with my students daily during this time of crisis.
Like many teachers, I also have a second job. Luckily for me, my second job is being Clint Koble’s campaign manager. As a government teacher, I care deeply about our communities, our children, and the future of our country. So being involved in politics is second nature to me.
In 2018, my husband, Will, secured a professorship at a local university, so we packed up and moved to The Biggest Little City. When I saw another Clint running for office - and I had never even met another Clint before - I decided it was a sign and that I needed to join his team as a volunteer and help in his fight. I became good friends with his campaign manager at the time, Marissa. We met weekly to discuss strategy and how we could oust Mark Amodei, a man who never seemed to listen to his constituents in Northern Nevada.
We came very close to winning the 2018 election for Clint - well, at least closer than any other Democrat had come in over a decade. During that election cycle, I got to know Clint. I got to know a humble, decent man who never once said an unkind word about another candidate or person. He was the exemplification of good-heartedness and goodwill. I was thrilled to work with a candidate of such integrity and passion.

Clint Koble came to Marissa and me around the 2018 holiday season, considering a second run for congress. We were both excited about the prospect. We talked about what a second run would look like, and how we could finally make 2020 "our year."
In January 2019, the unthinkable happened and Marissa passed away suddenly. We lost a friend, a wonderful ally and a beautiful person. Clint, our team, and I were all shocked and saddened. We took time to grieve and remember what a wonderful human being she was. Our team stayed in touch socially and leaned on each other for support. We had become a family.
A few months later, I received a call from Clint Koble. He decided that he was indeed going to run for congress again and that I was the one he wanted in the driver's seat as his campaign manager. He insisted again that I was the person for the job, and I never felt more honored.
After the call, I talked to my husband and told him that although I was flattered, there was no way I could make it work. Almost as soon as the words escaped my mouth, Will said, "No. You're doing it." I told him about how much "us" time we would be giving up, and what a big commitment this would be. He turned to me and said, "You can do this. We have to do this. For Clint. And for Marissa."
In that moment, we decided to go forward, and I haven’t had to do this job alone. Luckily, I get to do this work with a wonderful man and partner beside me. I do this work every day – in addition to my teaching career - not for a paycheck or to boost my resume, but because I have found a candidate who is simply… Good. Down to his bones. A candidate I can put my heart and soul into.
Every minute of our campaign has been about US, about Nevada, and about Clint Koble’s fight for those who need him most. I am beyond proud to work for such an accomplished and qualified person, but more than anything else, a person who shows respect and kindness to every human being he meets.
As you sit with your mail-in ballot this week making decisions about who to vote for in this primary, I ask you to consider voting for Clint Koble. He brought my husband and me into a Nevada family we never knew we could have, and I couldn't be more honored to have worked for him over this past year and a half.
I believe with all my heart and soul that Clint Koble is an honorable person with integrity and solid character and that he is the only person who can take down Mark Amodei in November. Neither of us two Clints are doing this work for the glory, praise, money, or ego. We’re doing this for you and to serve all the people of Nevada.
Please vote for Clint Koble when you receive your mail-in ballot. If you have any questions about how to vote via mail, please reach out to our team.
